About YourWay Madeira Tours
YourWay Madeira Tours is a small local company built around one simple idea: the best way to see this island is with someone who lives on it.

A local company, by design
YourWay Madeira Tours exists because so many visitors arrive with two or three free days, a long list of places they have seen online, and no realistic idea of how they connect. Madeira looks small on a map. In practice, a thirty-kilometre drive can involve a thousand metres of altitude, three microclimates and a tunnel that changes the weather completely. Local knowledge is not a luxury here; it is what makes a day work.
Everything we do is private. One vehicle, one group, one driver-guide who is with you for the whole day. There are no shared pickups, no waiting for other passengers at hotel entrances and no fixed schedule you have to keep up with. If a viewpoint is worth another twenty minutes, you take it. If the cloud has settled where we planned to go, we change the order and come back later.
How our tours work
We collect you at your hotel or accommodation and return you there at the end. Before the day starts, we talk about what you actually want: mountains and viewpoints, coast and villages, forest walks, photography, or a gentle route with plenty of stops and little walking. That conversation shapes the route more than any fixed itinerary could.
During the day the guiding is conversational rather than a lecture. You will hear about the levada system that made agriculture possible on these slopes, why the north and south coasts look and feel like different islands, how the laurisilva forest survived, and where to eat something genuinely local rather than something built for tour groups. Questions are welcome — they usually make the day better.
Vehicles carry up to 8 passengers, which covers most families and small groups of friends travelling together. Tours are guided in English and Portuguese; if you need another language, ask us and we will tell you honestly what is possible for your dates instead of promising something we cannot deliver.
Safety and honest planning
Driving in Madeira demands respect. Gradients are steep, mountain roads narrow in places, and conditions at 1,800 metres have nothing to do with conditions on the seafront in Funchal. Our driver-guides are licensed, drive these routes year-round, and will change or cancel a section of a route when it is not safe or not worth it — and they will tell you why.
The same honesty applies to what we promise. We do not guarantee that the sunrise will be visible, that Fanal will be misty, or that every attraction on a wish list fits into one day. What we do commit to is a realistic plan, a private vehicle, a guide who knows the island, and clear communication before and during your tour.
